Hagan/Health care

Senator Hagan,

I'm going to do something that's "taboo" - I'm going to tell you how I voted in November 2008. I couldn't vote for you because my views on issues like abortion, gun owner's rights, and such totally clash with the views espoused by your party. I couldn't vote for Ms. Dole as she pulled some slimy politicking with the "Godless Americans" accusations. Yes, I abstained. Why? Because I don't vote a certain way because it's "expected" or because of a "brand name".

That said, I noticed you were an "easy yea" for this health care bill, H.R. 3590. I know you've heard from countless numbers of people who oppose this bill. In fact, I've been in the numbers of folks who have called and written to express concern. What strikes me is even after all of the calls, letters, and polls, senators such as yourself have taken it upon themselves to ignore the people they represent and push us closer toward a European-style health care system.

All of this has left me with questions like "does the government really care how people feel about issues?" and "do my letters and calls make a difference?" I think your vote pretty much answered question one. If you had cared about how the good people of North Carolina felt about the issue of health care reform, you'd have been looking a different direction than a plan that's destine to bankrupt the American people. As far as question two goes, I'll keep writing, but I doubt you'll ever actually see one of my letters. They'll be counted to tally public opinion, and that opinion will be disregarded by people who blindly walk a party-line. I continue to cling to the one positive thing. That's the fact that I can make a difference in 2012 as I can justify a vote against you by considering past performance.

Anyway, that's what I had to say. Hello to the staffer who reads this. Not that it even matters, but please log "one against a past decision" in the database.
