Ron Paul - Please Fold

So, the other night, I was given yet another reason to add to the list fo reasons why Ron Paul should resign his campaign for president.  Yes, you Ron Paul supporters, before you send me E-mail, please consider what I have written here.  If you find it to be false, drop me a line and let me know... but it's not false, and any idiot would have to admit it.

First off, Ron Paul is a total throw-back.  He's an isolationist.  If Ron Paul were president in the late 30's and early 40's, we'd all be speaking German and talking about what a great cat moron Adolf Hitler was - as he'd have never went to war against such atrocities.  Yes, you can cover it with the name "America First" (which is what he calls his ostrich policy), but at the end of the day, it's still the same brand of isolationism.  This scares MANY (including me).

Representative Paul is an insider… or at least he’s perceived as being an insider by Joey Average because he holds an office now.  Yes, this is a problem it seems as if all of the candidates have, and it’s unfortunate.  If a Herman Cain (or anyone who has no political experience) had risen up, they would be embraced as “something different”.  And that’s why Paul (and the rest of the field) is perceived of as being “more of the same”.

Finally, Ron Paul’s appearance on television’s “Scooby Doo” as a guest villain didn’t do him any favors.  His classic line “I would have gotten away with it too if it weren’t for you meddling kids and that dog!” made him more than memorable.  Type-casting is always a problem, and many have difficulty separating television from reality.  Folks who suffer from this blurred line between reality and a fictional television world will never vote for Paul.

With all that said, I call on Representative Ron Paul to fold his campaign and move along.

What Now?

So, the with the "Cain Train" now de-railed, Bachman looking like a long shot, people not even having a clue about who Huntsman is, Santorum having never really showed up for the race, and Perry looking like a bigger dolt every minute, what's really left after Iowa?

  • Paul - He, by rights, should have made the list above, but he's got "momentum".  Why?  I have no idea.  The guy represents tried and proven concepts... the majority of which have been proven bad.  He does do a nice job of representing isolationism as "America First", but Obama represented socialism as "hope and change".  Both are poision.
  • Romney - I still can't get over the idea that this guy is being considered for anything other than dog catcher.  Yeah, sure, he's "got experience", but his record shows him to be a liberal nut.
  • Gingrich - Haven't I seen this movie before?  This guy is old-school DC at it's finest and may very well be unelectable.  We'd have to wait and see on that part.  He does carry intellect (and not that "Kerry-esk" snooty high-brow psudeo-intellect demonstrated by Romney) and seems to have the ability to communicate.  I suspect he would obliterate Obama in debate.  I also suspect the media would eat him alive, as he carries a lot of baggage and has said a whole lot of things that can be pulled out of context into soundbytes.

Who is the best choice?  Again, I have no idea.  I really wouldn't mind seeing the Republican ticket positioned with a few more options, however the hour is late.

"We're Back!" - and here's my take on the Republican field

2.0So, like one person somewhere wanted me to toss up a political blog.  I gave it some thought and figured "sure, why not".  To quote Bender B. Rodriguez, "We're back baby!"

So what's the unfortunate consequence of this page being "back"?  Well, I had TONS of spammers trying to get access to my site.  They had filled the user tables with garbage users that would eventually explode and try to sell adult entertainment, offer you meds, get your mail order bride, etc... so they ALL had to go.  Unfortunately, that means I may have inadvertently deleted a good user!  If that was you, well, take this as my "I'm sorry".

On to the actual topic!  What's up with the Republican field?  Unfortunately, it seems as if the field is just weak.  Let's start from the top:

  • Romney - I really can't see this clown as being remotely electable.  He represents the problem and not the solution as he's nothing more than "old guard" who has stepped up to the plate to grab his turn (again).
  • Cain - He's that insane man that keeps yelling the number 9 at my TV!  Seriously, I have been hearing "9-9-9", but I had no idea what it was until I went out and looked it up.  What I'm getting at is the fact that his message is poorly communicated.
  • Perry - Three points here.  First off, there's some really bad press in Texas regarding this guy that seems to implicate him as a racist.   Granted, some things "go under the radar", and maybe he never noticed the name on the rock, but it still detracts from his message.  Second, he comes off as too much of a "pretty boy".  It doesn't seem as if he has the wherewithal to lead a nation.  Third, um... ur... the third thing... uh?
  • Paul - What a bitter old dude.  Again, not electable.  Yes, he's different, but unfortunately that type of different seems to make one think he should be wearing a jacket that's sleeves tie together in the back.  His followers don't do him a lot of good either as the majority of them come off as having misplaced several marbles.
  • Gingrich - Where'd he come from?  From what I've been able to gather, he's probably got the most coherent message of all the Republican candidates.  Catch is that his name is synonymous with 90's politics and he's viewed as "old guard".  I guess I'm just not sure if he can overcome the stigma with the voters.

So there's my take on all of the candidates that seem to matter.  Who can beat an Obama/Biden or Clinton/Whoever ticket?  I think best money is on Herman Cain.  Why?

  • He's got momentum.
  • He's the clear conservative choice.
  • While I was typing this article, his campaign called my house.  Go figure.  Seems to indicate he's got some cash to spend.
  • Sure, I joke about him, but he doesn't have one eye that spins clockwise and another that spins counter-clockwise (like Ron Paul).
  • Cain is a strong, successful, conservative, Republican black man - and that just totally thwarts many democrats concept of their party and their competition.  This doesn't mean the "race" or "gender" card will not be played in the general election, as it could be a Cain vs. Clinton ticket.

So, who's the best candidate?  The only response that comes to my mind at this point is "I have no idea".
